Coffee – The Elixir For Health

Despite having one the deep rooted histories, coffee has somehow got a bad name from the self-proclaimed health experts of the world. In most of the  cases our beliefs are somehow limited by our culture and the region. But the world does not work within the confined pillars of our thoughts. Facts have to be backed up by research and studies, or they are simply myths and hypothesis.

Did you know that over 400 billion cups of coffee are consumed every year? Here are few of the many benefits of this much loved beverage

1.Coffee makes you feel less tired.

This benefit seem obvious. It is the reason many people turn to their morning cup of joy. And there is no doubt coffee can give you that extra boost you need, especially when you have had insufficient sleep. This is due to the caffeine which acts as a stimulant that helps you feel more alert and focused. It also gives you a boost in energy and helps you keep going when you are low on stamina.

  1. Coffee Lowers Effects of Liver Damage

One great thing to look forward to in drinking your daily coffee is that it is providing your liver with necessary protection. Coffee drinkers who also imbibe in alcohol have been known to have a lower risk of cirrhosis to the liver. Though you should do all things in moderation, like drinking, the benefit coffee provides is priceless!

Another relatively unknown benefit of coffee is its link to enhanced liver function. A study published in the Journal Gastroenterology in December 2005 by Ruhl and Everhart A total of 1,989 persons were followed for an average period of 19 years and it was seen that participants who drank more than 2 cups of coffee or tea per day had less than half the rate of chronic liver disease as against those who drank less than 1 cup per day.

  1. Drinking coffee may help you live longer.

While it is uncertain in exactly what ways drinking coffee lowers your risk of death, there definitely seems to be a correlation. Research performed by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) determined that people who drink three or more cups each day are at a 10% lower risk of death. Perhaps the most important ramification of this study is that drinking coffee does not seem to adversely affect your health, as earlier research seemed to indicate.

  1. Coffee improves your circulation.

Drinking a cup of coffee has been proven to cause a 30% boost in capillary blood flow, according to a Japanese study. This level of increased blood circulation results in better oxygenation of your body’s tissues, such as improved performance in physical activities.

  1. Lean on Your Antioxidants

What most coffee drinkers are loving is the amount of antioxidants that they can get just by drinking their delicious brew. Antioxidants are what you need to fight is the free radicals that can cause cell damage spreading through your body. Coffee is not the highest in antioxidants, but it is the most consumed source out there.

  1.  It Can Reduce the Risk of Developing Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic health condition that affects millions of people in the world. Those with diabetes have high blood sugar levels, and their body secretes little to no insulin hormone to help turn that sugar into energy. This disease has yet to have a cure, however, it is a manageable one.

That is where coffee comes in. Studies have shown that those who consume coffee on a daily basis have a 14%-30% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In one other study, the risk seems to be even lower. For every cup of coffee a person drinks in a day, the risk of developing type 2 diabetes is 7%.

  1. Coffee may help curb certain cancers.

Men who drink coffee may be at a lower risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer. In addition, researchers have also found ties between regular coffee drinking and lower rates of liver, colon, breast, and rectal cancers.

In its original form, it is a whole food that contains a plethora of beneficial nutrients and antioxidants. The key is knowing where to find high-quality coffee and how to avoid losing any of its health benefits by decreasing its nutrient content or adding harmful substances, like artificial ingredients. But there are many reasons why you should seek out this delicious beverage no matter what part of the world you live in.
