“Health is wealth.” – Everyone has either heard or read this phrase many times throughout their lives. We usually tend to take our health for granted, but under the current circumstances, the Covid-19 and the resulting lockdowns, people have become more sedentary. Gyms are closed, and the online work and education system has resulted in people sitting on a single spot for unhealthy long hours.
“The human body has been designed to resist an infinite number of changes and attacks brought about by its environment. The secret of good health lies in successful adjustment to changing stresses on the body.” – Harry J. Johnson
Due to the vastly spread virus, most of the world is under lockdown. Even though it is a necessary measure to contain the spread of the virus, it has resulted in people neglecting their health and getting used to a stagnant lifestyle. Research suggests that this type of lifestyle is not only bad for your bodily health, but it also adversely affects our mental health. Hence, staying active and full of life is more important than ever.
Many people exercise in fitness centers. Due to the COVID restrictions, they mostly remain closed, causing hurdles and even demotivating people to keep up with their workout routines. As the restrictions are decreasing, and if you are not in self-isolation, then a half hour walk, or biking is a great way of starting your day (make sure to maintain safe distance from people.) However, even if you’re stuck at home you can remain active by exercising indoors. In the age of technology, finding online trainers has never been easier. They provide you with specific exercise routines as per your requirements with diet charts. Plus, the biggest advantage is that you can opt for exercises which require none to a few equipment.
Another way of staying active and fit is by starting a yoga routine, which has a lot of benefits for your body as well as your mind. Not only it helps in reducing weight, it also increases muscle strength and tone. It also improves respiration, cardio and circulatory health.
“Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.” ― B.K.S Iyengar
Due to our lifestyle, we spend most of our time sitting which has affected our posture badly. Most of us have ended with a curved back and tight muscles, causing back ache and discomfort in the whole body. Yoga increases your flexibility and also helps to improve your posture.
Although exercise is necessary, if it is not backed up by a healthy diet, it wouldn’t be beneficial. As it is rightly said “You are what you eat”, so if you start your day with junk food and end it with a pizza, it would not matter how much you work out in a day. You need to eat healthy foods like fruits, cereals, whole grains, vegetables etc. Instead of a bottle of coke, you could go with a glass of fresh juice, and instead of packed snacks you could go with a bowl of fruit salad. All these little changes would go a long way in improving your health, and you would start noticing those improvements within a month.
